The Role of Occupational Therapy
in the Care of Perinatal Women
Occupational therapy has a role on the perinatal healthcare team, although, occupational therapy practitioners are frequently absent from the team (Pollari et al., 2022).
The focus of this capstone project was to create an online educational course to inform occupational therapy practitioners and maternal healthcare professionals about the role of occupational therapy in addressing the occupational needs of perinatal women.

The goal of this program is to help broaden occupational therapy practitioner competency of care for and involvement with perinatal women, as well as extend the knowledge of occupational therapy involvement with perinatal women amongst maternal healthcare professionals.
This project addresses all timeframes of the perinatal period including preconception, prenatal/ pregnancy, labor & birth, and the postpartum period.

This webpage and online course was created as part of a doctoral capstone project, in partial fulfillment of the requirements of the Doctoral of Occupational Therapy Degree from the
University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences.
